Terms of Use

Effective date: June 30, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Folio app. By downloading or using Folio, you agree to them. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies in addition to these Terms.

1. License

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Folio for your own personal, non-commercial use, in accordance with these Terms and Apple's standard EULA.

2. Subscriptions

Folio offers a Monthly subscription (with a one-week free trial) and a Yearly subscription. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Renewal is billed to your App Store account. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your App Store account settings. If you start a free trial and then purchase a subscription, any unused portion of the free trial is forfeited.

3. Lifetime purchase

The Lifetime option is a one-time, non-consumable purchase. It does not auto-renew. It unlocks the full library, including titles added in the future.

4. Content

The book texts in Folio are in the public domain, sourced from Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks. The audio narration is in the public domain, sourced from LibriVox. The study material — glosses, definitions, grammar notes, and examples — is provided by Folio "as is" for learning purposes and may contain errors or omissions. It is an aid to reading, not a substitute for a dictionary or formal instruction.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to reverse-engineer, redistribute, or resell the app, and not to use it in any way that violates applicable law.

6. Disclaimer of warranties

Folio is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not promise specific learning outcomes, fluency, scores, or results.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Folio and its makers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the app.

8. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll update the effective date above when we do.
